A South Jutland Fairytale.
Melessa & Anders
Last weekend I traveled across the country to the beautiful south of Jutland to capture Melessa and Anders’ wedding day. After a much-needed coffee (or three!) following a five-hour journey, I joined Melessa and her closest family as the morning began. The atmosphere was calm yet full of joy—laughter, anticipation, and just the right amount of happy nerves.
Once I had captured the details with Melessa, I headed just a few minutes down the road to see Anders. Surrounded by his closest friends, and later joined by his mother, Anders was in high spirits. The room buzzed with stories, laughter, and the lighthearted struggle of tying ties—moments that were a dream to photograph.
Back with Melessa, the excitement of the morning soon turned to heartfelt tears as she stepped into her wedding dress. Reality was setting in, and it was beautiful to witness those emotions unfold.
The ceremony took place in a church that truly took my breath away. While every church has its own charm, this one felt like something out of a postcard. Its gardens reminded me of Tuscany, with elegant trees, a water feature, and scenery so picturesque I could have happily photographed portraits there all day.
After the ceremony, we made our way to Schackenborg Castle—a setting steeped in history and elegance. Built in 1664 as the baroque dream of General Hans Schack, this Southern Jutland treasure later became a royal home, gifted to Prince Joachim in 1978. Today, under the Schackenborg Foundation, its gates welcome culture, history, and timeless Danish beauty.
Historic places like this always inspire me, and as we moved through the castle and its grounds, ideas came rushing to life. We ended the day across the bridge in a charming building belonging to the castle, where friends and family shared heartfelt stories and celebrated Melessa and Anders late into the evening.
It was a day filled with love, history, and joy—one I’ll always remember. And I truly hope I’ll have the chance to return to this magical place again soon.
